Lyonel Grant's magnum opus
If you are in Auckland, make sure you visit Lyonel Grant's recently opened marae at Unitec on Carrington Road. One of the most incredible contemporary examples of carving, design and architecture using traditional methods.

Ngatai Taepa - exhibition opening
Emily Wolfe in Art News
Emily Wolfe's major achievement of showing in the Whitechapel Gallery in London as part of the East End Academy's 'Jerwood Contemporary Painting Award' has been reported in the current Art News. From 700 applicants, Emily is one of twelve selected for this pretigious exhibition. Only three kiwis have ever shown at Whitechapel: Emily Wolfe, Karl Maughan and Pat Hanly.
Heather Straka back from Switzerland and China
Heather Straka has returned from her artist's residency in Switzerland, with a stop over in China on the way home, where she has worked on planning both her upcoming PBG exhibition for March next year and her exhibition at the DPAG in Dunedin, for around the same time. Saffronn Te Ratana Solo at The Suter
Talented young contemporary artist Saffronn Te Ratana has been awarded her first major solo exhibition in a public gallery at The Suter Gallery in Nelson. Described as "one of the most keenly observed contemporary Maori artists working today," Te Ratana's exhibition Pepeha is on show until the 18th of October. Saffronn Te Ratana is the partner of Page Blackie Gallery artist Ngatai Taepa, whose exhibition opens here on the 12th of September.
